The show is held annually on the last Saturday in September.   The exhibition of flowers, fruit, vegetables, baking, preserves, art, photography and handicrafts is held in the Village Hall opening at 3 p.m.
Exhibitors must live within a five mile radius of Willingham by Stow and produce must be grown in the area. We hope that you will continue to support this friendly village tradition and look forward to seeing your entries in the next show.
The 79th Willingham Horticultural Show
The show was held on 27th of September in the Village Hall and there was an excellent turnout of villagers coming along to see the exhibits.   After the hot and dry spring and summer the committee had been worried that the fruit and vegetable classes might be down on previous years but we needn’t have worried, there was a lovely display of produce.  As usual, the children’s work was greatly admired.  Our thanks go to the Staff of Sturton School and to the leaders of our Scouts, Cubs and Beavers for all their hard work and encouragement.
Margaret Smith, our President, thanked the committee members and the many extra pairs of hands that came along to help out for their efforts in staging the show and also welcomed all the visitors who had come to support the event.   Margaret also gave thanks to the Judges,  it’s getting increasingly difficult to find experts to take on this role.  Their advice and support is much appreciated.
Margaret then introduced our Opener, Mrs Sue Bingham and asked her to present the prizes.  Sue didn’t really need any introduction as she had been a member of the committee for more than 50 years. It was lovely to welcome her back in another capacity.
Sue presented the cups and medals to the many class winners.  She congratulated everyone on the wonderful show and said how delighted she was to see all the exhibits and commented on the hard work and talent of the competitors.    This year’s Adult aggregate cup winner was Helen Panter with Judith Tudberry as a very close runner up.  Henry Bates retained his Junior aggregate cup with sister, Martha,  as runner- up.
Proceedings were rounded up by an auction of the produce led by Mick Bates.  This and the raffle were well supported which ensured the viability of the Show and the committee can start thinking about the 2026 Show which will be our 80th.
